Alimentación de la vieira patagónica Zygochlamys patagonica (King y Broderip, 1832) en el banco Reclutas (39ºS-55ºW) durante un período anual OceanDocs
Schejter, L..
Zygochlamys patagonica is distributed in the Atlantic Ocean from 35 degree S to Tierra del Fuego (Argentina), and in the Pacific Ocean, up to 42 degree S, between 40 and 200 m depth. There are 9 beds in the Argentinian Sea. Scallops are suspensivore organisms, feeding on detritus and phytoplankton. The aims of this thesis are to make a quali-quantitative study of the diet of the Patagonian scallop, to detect seasonal changes in diet and to link these results with oceanographic conditions and with the growth pattern. Gut contents of 180 scallops were analyzed from samples (n=30) taken in June, August, October and November 1996, and February and March 1997. This procedure was tested statistically. Twelve species of diatoms and resting stages, five species of...

Alimentación de Squalus acanthias y predación sobre Merluccius hubbsi en el Mar Argentino entre 34°47'-47°S. OceanDocs
Garcia de la Rosa, S.B.; Sánchez, M.F..
The spiny dogfish, Squalus acanthias is an euribatic, euritermic and cosmopolitan specie. In the Argentine Sea it consumes diversity of preys, characteristic of a generalist and oportunist feeder, butits principal food items are ctenophores, fishes and cephalopods.Diet overlap between sexes was found between 34°-37°S and 101-150 m,where males principally feed on fishes, squid and polichaetes, sharing only ctenophores and hake consumption with the females. Near 62 cm TL there is a shift in the diet, due to an increment of argentine hake Merluccius hubbsi and squid Illex argentinus predation and a diminution in ctenophores Pleurobrachia pileus eating. Feeding shows an increment from north to south, its mode on 42°-43°S.Argentine hake is an important prey...

Alimentación del pez limón, Seriola lalandi (Valenciennes, 1833 in Cuvier y Valenciennes, 1833) en aguas bonaerenses OceanDocs
Vergani, M..
The yellowtail kingfish, Seriola lalandi, Carangidae (Valenciennes, in Cuvier y Valenciennes, 1833) is a pelagic, schooling fish, with gregarious behaviour. It is a circumglobal species from tropical and temperate waters. Adult S. lalandi migrate to Argentine waters (SW Atlantic) during summer months (January-April). They have been reported from Argentine waters in depths of 20-36 m between 36°S and 38° and, as reported elsewhere in the world, are often associated with rocky reefs. Samples of S. lalandi were caught using trolling lines during daytime around rocky reefs at 35° 52'-35° 58'S and 54° 45'-54° 48'W, on February 15-22, 2002. Sixty-six adult S. lalandi were analyzed, with specimens measured (LT) and weighted (WT). The length-weight relationship...

Alimentation du merlan Merlangius merlangus L. en Mer Celtique ArchiMer
Du Buit, Marie-henriette; Merlina, Frédéric.
The importance of predation by the whiting (Merlangius merlangus ) from the Celtic Sea has been studied by analysis of stomach contents. Eight hundred and thirteen whitings have been examined during 1984-1986 period. Fish food totalizes 97% of food. It is chiefly a swimming species: no cannibalism has been observed. The daily food index varies between 2 and 4% according to the length and the annual consumption on fishes of nominal catches (11230 t for 1983) would reach 135,000 t corresponding to species already fished for human consumption and the fish meal industry.

Approche du regime alimentaire des juveniles de bars et de limandes en baie de Somme. ArchiMer
Leaute, Jean-pierre.
Stomach contents of juveniles of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax ) and common dab (Limanda limanda ) collected during September 1982 from Bay of Somme and the neighbor coast to Penly, were examined. The most part of the diet of young sea bass are the crustaceans, Sedentary polychaetes appear to be the major food item for common dab. For these two young predator species, food preferences tend to change early: cumaceans, then common edible shrimp, for sea bass, Tube worm tentacles, then part of whole individuals are preferred by common dab.

Approximation to the diet of Thalassoma lucasanum (family Labridae) in the coral reef of La Azufrada, Gorgona Island, Eastern Tropical Pacific Boletín de Investigaciones
Palacios-Narváez,Stephania; Valencia,Bellineth; Giraldo,Alan.
ABSTRACT The Cortez rainbow wrasse, Thalassoma lucasanum, is an abundant reef fish of the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP). Unlike other species of the genus Thalassoma that are recognized as cleaners, in T. lucasanum this behavior is rare, since it feeds mainly on invertebrates through foraging. However, information on the trophic ecology of this species is limited, especially in the ETP. In this study, we characterize the feeding habits of T. lucasanum in Gorgona Island (ETP) from analyzing its gut contents and calculating its trophic niche. Mollusks were the main food resource of T. lucasanum, being this the most important and frequent prey item found in 100 % of the stomachs analyzed (n = 5). In terms of biomass, crustaceans had the greatest contribution...

Biometric relationships between body size and otolith size in 15 demersal marine fish species from the northern Brazilian coast Acta Amazonica
OLIVEIRA,Rory Romero de Sena; ANDRADE,Marcelo Costa; MACHADO,Fabiola Seabra; CUNHA,Élida Jesana Santana; FREITAS,Flaviane Souto de; KLAUTAU,Alex Garcia Cavalleiro de Macedo; GIARRIZZO,Tommaso; SAINT-PAUL,Ulrich.
ABSTRACT The relationships between fish size and sagitta otolith measurements were calculated for the first time for 15 species belonging to six families from the northern Brazilian coast. A total of 220 fish were sampled from the bycatch landed by the bottom-trawl industrial shrimp-fishing fleet between August and September 2016. All species had strong relationships between otolith measurements and fish total length with the coefficient of determination (r 2) ranging between 0.71 and 0.99. The variable most strongly related to fish total length was found to be the sagittal otolith length (OL) with 98% of the variability. These relationships are a useful tool to estimate length and mass of preyed fish from otoliths found in stomach contents of marine...

Comparaison de cinq indices alimentaires utilises dans l'analyse des contenus stomacaux ArchiMer
Rosecchi, E; Nouaze, Y.
Compound indices are often used in the analysis of fish stomach contents to characterize diet. Five of these indices, combining two or three measures of prey importance: weight, abundance and frequency of occurrence, are mathematically compared in this work. Data from a feeding study of sparid fish show that different indices can produce different results. Four classifications of food, in terms of preferences, are applied to Sparidae, compared and discussed. A new method of classifying the prey of fish into groups is proposed. It characterizes the main items in the diet, whatever feeding index is chosen for the analysis.

Contrasting perception of fish trophic level from stomach content and stable isotope analyses: A Mediterranean artificial reef experience ArchiMer
Cresson, Pierre; Ruitton, Sandrine; Ourgaud, Melanie; Harmelin-vivien, Mireille.
A large complex of artificial reefs was deployed in the Bay of Marseilles, North-Western Mediterranean, for the enhancement of commercial fisheries stocks. Carbon and nitrogen stable isotope and stomach content analyses were performed on 23 fish species collected on the artificial reefs to assess their trophic position and feeding behaviour. Results indicated that fish diets were not modified on the artificial reefs compared to natural environments, nor was the structure of their trophic network. Artificial reefs, with their complex design, provide diverse and abundant food sources for fishes. Ranges of delta C-13 and delta N-15 of artificial reef fishes were comparable to those recorded in natural Mediterranean environments, with a similar trophic...

Diet of red squid (Ommastrephes bartramii)in the Southwest Atlantic OceanDocs
Ivanovic, M.L.; Brunetti, N.E..
The diet of red squid (Ommastrephes bartramii)during autumn 2001 and2002 in the SW Atlantic region off Argentina and Uruguay (33° S-42° S;46° W-55° W)was composed mainly of fish (55-68. ), followed by squid (32-37. ) and zooplankton (8. only in 2001). Around 60. of the fish eaten was identified as myctophids and corresponded to five genera and seven species, with higher frequency of Hygophum hygomii (24-34. ). The identification of squids consumed reached 20. in 2001 and 80. in 2002 and the only species identified was O. bartramii, which implies percentages of cannibalism of 5.6. and 25.8. each year. For the range analyzed, 141-443 mm of mantle length (ML), the consumption of fish and squid did not show any relation to the size of predator. In 2001 the...

Digestive enzyme activity and food ingesta in juvenile shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) as a function of body weight ArchiMer
Gamboa Delgado, Julián; Molina Poveda, César; Cahu, Chantal.
A study was conducted to evaluate variations of digestive enzyme activities in Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone) reared in commercial ponds under semi-intensive conditions. Shrimp were collected at each body weight increase of 2 g. As the shrimp grew (2-12 g), significant increases in the activities of lipase and chymotrypsin were observed. The total protease activity decreased from 6 g onwards. Trypsin activity showed a peak at 6 g and amylase activity increased two-fold after 2 g. Additionally, the stomach contents were analysed microscopically for shrimp between 2 and 10 g. Plant matter contributed above 30% of the total stomach content in 6-, 8- and 10-g shrimp. Detritus represented 58% and 62% of the total stomach content in 2- and 4-g shrimp,...

Dinoflagelles toxiques sur les cotes francaises pendant l'ete 1983. Manifestations de Dinophysis acuminata sur le littoral normand. ArchiMer
Paulmier, Gerard; Joly, Jean-pierre.
Numerous cases of food poisoning were observed in South Normandy during the summer 1983 and attributed to shellfish consumption. At the same time a dinoflagellate Dinophysis acuminata was found in the Bay of Seine and in north Normandy where high concentrations induced "red waters". The observation of the stomach contents of the mussels showed that this Dinophysis was one of the main constituents of the alimentary bolus. The toxicity of type DSP, determined by the mouse-test, is more or less correlated with the abundance coefficient of D. acuminata . Its space distribution also seems connected to the tidal movements.

Distribución, áreas de concentración y estructura de la población del abadejo (Genypterus blacodes) OceanDocs
Renzi, M.A..
The "abadejo" is one of the species that has been traditionally exploited in the Argentine Sea. Although the capture was not very important, it has been increased in the last years. In this work, the structure of the concentration areas of summer, spring and winter distribution and other biological items were analyzed, basing on the data collected during cruises effected by R/V "Walther Herwing" and R/V "Shinkai Maru" in these waters during 1978/79. Winter and spring distribution patterns showed the highest concentrations located between 41º and 48º SL, specially on the slope. Summer distribution pattern showed the concentration areas located between 43º30' and 48º30' LS shifted rather to the coast when comparing to the previous one. During the winter, in...
